Irene Christ is a German actress, theatre director and lecturer, who has worked in various prestigious theatres such as Schauspielhaus Bochum, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Volksbühne Berlin, and with several well known directors including Leander Haussmann, Dimiter Gotscheff and in New York with Oscar-nominated director Josh Fox.
Irene wrote and directed for Staatstheater Kassel. She acted and directed at the Schlosspark Theater Berlin amongst others.
From 2002 until 2009 she ran her own theatre company Actinghouse Productions in Malta.
In 2019 Irene directed the stage version of ‚Pope Joan‘, as part of the Malta International Arts Festival, co-produced by Teatru Malta (National Theatre).
She lectures at one of the top German Academies of Dramatic Arts, at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst ‘Ernst Busch’ in Berlin, and at the Filmschauspielschule Berlin.
She founded and for several years ran a theatre group of psychiatric patients, the ‘Psycho Comedians’.
She has been working as a presentation mentor to film directors and script writers at the Berlinale Talents and for the Scottish Film Talent Network in Edinburgh / Glasgow.
She wrote and directed ‚Much Love, Assia: The Tragedy of Suicide Doppelganger‘ for the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Benigna Gerisch.
She played roles on German and Maltese TV and for the BBC. The feature movie Do Re Mi Fa by Chris Zarb, where she plays one of the main roles, has been screened at international film festivals, at the European Film Festival in New York 2017 amongst others. The movie won several awards. Irene was nominated for ‘Best Actor/Actress’.
Irene lives in Berlin and Valletta.
